On the Alert

In recent months, the Alliance Defense Fund and its allies have seen a sharp increase in the number of cases that directly attack Our First Liberty – religious freedom.

New Mexico
ADF attorneys are defending a photographer who declined to photograph a lesbian commitment ceremony. She has been charged by the New Mexico Human Rights Division with violating the state’s anti-discrimination laws for “sexualorientation discrimination.” If she loses, Christians could find themselves under increasing legal attack simply for abiding by their sincerely held religious beliefs.

Washington
ADF attorneys are defending a pharmacy owner who refused to stock or sell the so-called “morning-after” pill, which results in an abortion. At stake in this case: whether or not the government can compel Christian medical professionals to violate their deepest religious beliefs.

Arizona
ADF attorneys are defending the right of a high school student Christian club to promote a weekly prayer meeting at the school’s flagpole. School officials censored the students’ announcement because it contained the word “prayer,” even going as far as tearing up the announcement in front of one of the club members . The question: Will the courts recognize that Christian student groups are entitled to the same facilities, equipment, and support as non-Christian groups on public school campuses
