On the Alert

Across the Nation

Since 1954, pastors have lived in fear of losing their church’s tax-exempt status if they discuss candidates’ positions on issues of concern to their congregations. Organizations like Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) have used this threat of IRS action against churches to create an atmosphere of intimidation and fear. But those days may be coming to an end.

The Alliance Defense Fund has launched the “Pulpit Initiative” to defend the essential religious liberty of churches by directly challenging the IRS regulations used to censor pastors who dare to speak Scriptural Truth about candidates for office. Go to www.telladf.org/Church for more information on this new initiative to reclaim the First Amendment rights of pastors and churches.

California

In May, the California Supreme Court struck down Proposition 22 (the state’s Defense of Marriage Act), fabricating same-sex “marriage” and potentially opening the floodgates for similar decisions across the country. In response to that decision, ADF attorneys are, providing legal assistance to pro-family efforts to pass an amendment protecting marriage as the union between one man and one woman on the November ballot.

Advocates of same-sex “marriage” have admitted that a defeat at the ballot box will set back their movement for years. Please be in prayer for this amendment, and for the ADF attorneys who are defending marriage in the courts every day against the relentless assaults from advocates of homosexual behavior.
