Ask the Alliance

What effect will the 2008 presidential election have on the work of the Alliance Defense Fund?
A major impact will be on the selection of federal judges – almost certainly including some members of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Whoever is elected could profoundly affect how our Constitution is interpreted and applied for years to come.  Although judges cannot determine how ADF attorneys practice law or conduct our cases, they do often shape the legal field we play on.  That is, they can make our job a lot harder and the legal climate for Christians much harsher if they want to do so.

Please give particular concentration to the qualifications of the judges who run for election, or re-election, in your community and to what all the candidates say about the kind of judges they would select to serve in the federal courts.

Why doesn’t ADF get involved in politics?
Because ADF is not, never has been, and never will be a political organization.  ADF was formed by 35 national ministry leaders to fill a gap no other ministry was filling – and that gap wasn’t political.

While many wise, courageous, and influential people are working diligently to shape the politics and policies of our government, ADF is still the only legal alliance so uniquely equipped to do what we do: defend life, families, and religious freedom through a powerful combination of strategy, training, funding and litigation.

Our confidence is in the abiding Truth of God and the basic legal wisdom of the Constitution, and both of those are best served by focusing our energies not on divisive rhetoric or hotly contested offices, but on preserving America’s religious liberties for our children and grandchildren.

Does the U.S. Constitution really call for “separation of church and state?”
No – that’s a deliberate distortion cultivated by organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).  In fact, the term “separation of church and state” is found nowhere in the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, or any other founding document of this nation.  Nevertheless, the ACLU and its allies have used this deliberate misinformation to persuade public officials to silence religious expression.

Please prayerfully consider supporting ADF. No matter who resides in the White House, the Alliance Defense Fund will continue to defend your religious freedoms, the sanctity of life, and family values.
