On the Alert

Despite the enactment of three more state constitutional amendments this past November defining marriage as the union between one man and one woman, advocates of homosexual behavior continue their efforts to use the courts to force same-sex "marriage" on America.

In California, same-sex marriage advocates are asking the state Supreme Court to overturn the will of the people, who enacted a constitutional amendment last November restoring marriage as one man and one woman in the Golden State. ADF is providing critical assistance to a legal ally leading the effort to defend the people's vote. Oral arguments before the court are expected to occur in March.

In early December, the Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Varnum v. Brien, another attempt by activists promoting the homosexual agenda to find a state court to fabricate same-sex marriage. ADF submitted a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of five state legislators, asking the court to uphold marriage in the Hawkeye State. A decision could be handed down at any time.

Finally, ADF attorneys continue to defend marriage in New York against efforts by state officials to recognize same-sex unions performed outside the Empire State.

Same-sex marriage advocates have promised a long-term battle in their crusade to redefine, and perhaps eliminate, marriage. ADF and its allies will be there, in state after state, and in court after court, to uphold the God-ordained institution of marriage as one man and one woman.
