We also provide crucial legal information and support to our allies in both the legal and policy arenas, helping to shape the legal strategies that continue to chip away at the terrible implications of Roe v. Wade and other court decisions.
We not only helped bring together many pro-life leaders for major strategy sessions, but provided significant funding for a coordinated legal effort, including a friend-of-the-court brief co-written by ADF Senior Legal Counsel Steven H. Aden and Harvard Law School Professor Mary Ann Glendon, among others.
That critical victory is one of the "building blocks" that will, in time, help bring about the more seismic shift in the legal landscape that so many of us long to see.
Can we overturn Roe v. Wade?
Probably not anytime soon, with the current array of Supreme Court judges. But that doesn't mean pro-life advocates - including ADF - aren't making progress.
After all, Roe itself didn't happen overnight - it was the culmination of nearly seventy years of effort on the part of those pressing a culture of death. The legal foundations for that decision were laid incrementally... one court case at a time... carefully calculating every point-by-point shift of the prevailing legal winds.
And now it's requiring that same kind of long-term, diligent, disciplined effort to roll back that repugnant ruling and all the evils that have come from it. That's what makes cases like Gonzales v. Carhart so important.
